Dallas Cowboys 28, Washington Redskins 23
IRVING — The Dallas Cowboys played a tense and exciting game Sunday afternoon, relying on a quick barrage of second-half touchdowns and a pair of last-second stops en route to a 28-23 victory in Irving. The win improves the Cowboys to 9-1, tied for tops in the NFC with the Green Bay Packers.
Leading the charge was, naturally, quarterback Tony Romo, who shook off three wild shotgun snaps in the first half to go 22-of-32 for 293 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. All four touchdowns were to Terrell Owens, who caught eight passes for 173 yards, most of which came in the pivotal second half.
Down 10-7 at the half primarily due to constant mental mistakes on the part of the Cowboys, the Dallas offense came to life in the third and fourth quarters with touchdown strikes of 31, 46 and 52 yards to Owens, who set a personal best in scores. But Washington was not yet done, scoring a late touchdown to get within five, then marching down the field twice in the final four minutes, only to have one drive stopped by a Terrence Newman interception near the goaline, and the final hail mary pass broken up by none other than Terrell Owens in the endzone.
The Cowboys' next game is this Thursday, when they face the New York Jets.
